Keep Your Word 1.3.2 is out there

It seems that I am in some kind of infinite loop. Yesterday, I published Keep Your Word 1.3.1, but after that I found a quite convoluted bug in the Smart Groups, so here comes the fix.

First of all, my apologies:

But let’s see it like this. Although I do not like to bug you with too many updates, and although I want those updates to bring only new (and I hope that exciting and wanted) features, sometimes things get broken, and have to be fixed.

And, this has given me also the opportunity to finally insert a Monty Python reference in the release notes. Good for me!.

Anyway, all these changes come because there has been some change in the way that Mac OS X 10.5.6 handles NSTreeController, the entity responsible of managing the Groups List data model. I would not say “Apple has broken my code”, because to be honest, I usually brake my code myself without external help, but I have been forced to make a lot of changes to fix something that was not broken before updating the system to 10.5.6.

So, again, my apologies. I really want to be back at work in the development of KYW 1.4, that I had to put aside yesterday to fix these issues.

Thank you for the update – but as far as I can see, it still doesn’t fix the biggest problem with the program. Forgive me if there’s an easy way to do this, but I just can’t find a way to add tags to a word without using either the mouse or pressing the tab key 208 times… I exaggerate, but not by much. I’d be happy if you set the tab order sensibly – Cmd-A, type word, tab, type word, tab, type tag would be fine… At the moment tab takes you to the side bar then through the toolbar.

Most of the time with an app like this you’re going to be typing a long list of words – having to stop to use the mouse (or too many tabs) just isn’t sensible. This is a big issue for an app like this and it’s a real shame because I really like the concept and the implementation in almost every other respect.

Unfortunately there isn’t a menu item, so I can’t use system preferences to create my own key… So please, show me where I’m going wrong, or put a shortcut in for tab!

    many thanks

    David

    Hi David

The tab order has been modified in the internal build I am testing now. However, I want to add some new features before releasing the next version, so it will not be released immediately.

Anyway, sorry for the inconvenience. And please, do not hesitate to report anything that doesn’t work as expected.

Sorry – last word should be tag…

I want to emphasis I really like the program – I’ve paid for it and will use it. It’s just the mania for the mouse is frustrating. In this case it effectively means the tags feature can’t easily be used as it should be, that’s all.

Unless of course there is an easy way and I’ve missed it – in which case I apologise profusely…
